Wild boars, coming to a bookstore near you!

I'm happy to report that the Johns Hopkins University Press will be publishing my book Reading Herodotus: A Guided Tour through the Wild Boars, Dancing Suitors, and Crazy Tyrants of The History. It should be out in the fall of 2012.

Unprecedented puzzling -- SPOILER

Picture 1-8This is unbelievable. Check this out: I got today's secret word puzzle in 1 guess.

Meanwhile, a reminder. As explained here, I've stopped posting my daily puzzle scores here on the blog. Instead, I'm posting them on the Twitter account @DailyPuzzles -- and so can you! Just follow @DailyPuzzles via Twitter. DailyPuzzles will follow you back. Then you can send a direct message to DailyPuzzles reporting on your puzzle scores and related commentary of interest. While direct messages in Twitter are normally private, these won't be. Instead, GroupTweet will take the direct messages and broadcast them to anyone following @DailyPuzzles.

Wow! Cool. The first time I ever solved it, the word was STREAM (or maybe STREAMING?), so out of habit, I now always start with those letters.

2.

Well, those are decent letters to start with. I do often start with RE, I guess. I doubt if today's luck will ever happen for me again.

Amazing. The only way I'll ever do that is if the word is something like 'aegis'. I always start with 'aeiou', and usually if there are enough blanks I'll end with 'ly'. I'm impressed! I think I may just reconsider my playing style.

If you start with a vowel you're very unlikely to land the first letter accidentally. I don't always do the same things, but I think I usually start with a common consonant, then a common vowel, since the second letter is likely to be a vowel. And if it's long I'll end with ING.

Ummm...errr...what did you guys get? I need a hint.
