My BAFAB contest: The results are in!
My BAFAB Contest is now closed! Earlier today Clare Dudman pieced together the clues and correctly identified the book I'd been thinking of: Dick York, The Seesaw Girl and Me.
I then held a drawing. I assigned the various participants numbers in accordance with the policies outlined in my original note, and--using a random integer generator--selected as the winner of a copy of the aforementioned book...the aforementioned Clare Dudman! Clare, I'll be sending you a copy, but mail me with your address again. I'll be very curious to hear your thoughts on this one.
Now. Of the various contests I've thrown over the years, I think that this may have been my favorite. Simple to implement, yet fun. And I think I may throw another one right away for this BAFAB Week--though next time I'll give away a used copy of a book. Stay tuned for more details!
ADDED: I'm going to post another book giveaway notice at 1:00 P.M. today. The details will be the same with two exceptions: 1. The prize book will be used. 2. The participant who correctly identifies the book will win an extra three entries in the drawing rather than an extra five. But all this will be spelled out in the new post.

Thank you! My lucky day. Shall email you forthwith.

Claudia, I didn't realize you had an audio clip of Dick York reading some of the book up at your site. That's fantastic. Folks should go listen here: http://www.newpathpress.com/seesaw/seesaw-extras-audio.html
It would be wonderful as an audio book if it were possible for you to scrape together the recordings.

Thank you for posting that link! Hearing Dick tell his own story in his rich, warm voice adds a wonderful dimension. My dad described it this way: the book is in black and white, and the tapes are in color. A barrier to the audio book (which was part of Dick's original plan) is that Dick used recorded music as a background and a bridge, and the copyright issues are large. Also, one of the tapes is missing, and quality of some of the tapes is no longer great.
I received an email from Clare; she got the book!

Hi, Claudia! I don't suppose it would be possible to somehow digitally remove the background music? The missing tape can't be got around, of course, but I'm sure people would like to hear as much as there is of it.
I like your father's description.
