Sunday Salon: Testing email alerts, etc.
A Salonist mentioned that she hasn't been receiving email alerts through Yahoo Pipes. I've never subscribed by that means, so I just did and am writing this to test it out. If anyone else has had problems, share your experiences in the comments. I can't claim any expertise on this issue, but maybe we Salonists can help one another.
Meanwhile, for those who haven't noticed, we're closing in on having a hundred members! We're currently at 93, which I find really amazing.

I've been OK since last time you changed the URL -- but sometimes my posts take a while to appear.
Did you see my essay in the Digitalist, btw, finally published -- when I wrote it we were 80.
(See Petrona for link to essay -- a post a day or two ago or directly via RH vertical sidebar).

No, I missed it! I'll go look.
The posts do take a long time to appear. It just takes a while for the RSS feeds to get processed, or what have you. I never did receive an email alert through the Yahoo email alert system, though. Mayhap it's broken.

Yes, I didn't get them when I tried either - now I just keep linking back to your feed and go from there. This is probably very inefficient of me, but I find it works quite well, although posts are sometimes a bit slow to appear - as you say.

Well, it's good to know that the problem is widespread, at least.
Clare, you don't subscribe by RSS? I am shocked.

Now Monday - Yahoo pipes email received but yesterday's Sunday Salon post has yet to show on www.twitter.com/sundaysalon

Hi, Lizzy. I'm glad somebody's getting the Yahoo mail! It works, then.
The Twitter subscription option is inherently unreliable. Maybe I should make that more obvious in the Salon sidebar.... The thing is, the feed is picked up by TwitterFeed and fed to Twitter, but TwitterFeed won't take more than 5 new posts each half hour, so some may drop out.... A way of getting around that just occurred to me. Maybe I'll rework it this morning so that the Twitter subscription is more reliable.

Okay, I've made it so that the Twitter feed should reliably get all the posts. Instead of feeding one Pipes RSS feed into Twitterfeed, I'm feeding currently 19 different ones in (1 for each 5 members). So that 5 posts per half hour limit won't apply. Anyway, it should work okay. If it doesn't, let me know.
