Sunday Salon: Finding bliss
Not much reading under my belt today, though I've managed some pages here and there from my current read. I'm immersed in the Icelandic chapter of Eric Weiner's The Geography of Bliss, which I've been happily reading for several days now. I mentioned the book in my Salon post last week. It is, as I suggested there, just the sort of book I like: readable, light-but-not-too-light nonfiction, educational without being dry. The author has been traveling to different parts of the world--Bhutan, Switzerland, Qatar, places that reportedly boast high levels of happiness--to examine their societies' cultural eccentricities and try to pinpoint whence springs their citizens' happiness. Interesting reminder that one's own cultural norms are not inevitable.

I'm the same way, and I especially love those kind of travel memoirs so I will need to check this one out. Thanks!

Definitely same taste. I like travel writing too. I don't actuall want to go anywhere; I just enjoy it vicariously.
