Wild boars, coming to a bookstore near you!

I'm happy to report that the Johns Hopkins University Press will be publishing my book Reading Herodotus: A Guided Tour through the Wild Boars, Dancing Suitors, and Crazy Tyrants of The History. It should be out in the fall of 2012.

Crossword: Common Ends

I think I hate this puzzle. I've got it completed, more or less accurately, I assume, and I'm still having trouble identifying the theme-related clues. Because I'm not entirely sure what the theme is. It seems to be that you tack "end" onto the first part of the answer to each theme-related entry--this works well with 116-Across, but not a lot of others, so far as I can see.

Hmmm. I'm really not sure which answers to post. Can anyone give me a clue here?

Update: Thanks to Lisa, I can now give you the theme-related clues. Check out the comments section for her explanation of the theme.
