Wild boars, coming to a bookstore near you!

I'm happy to report that the Johns Hopkins University Press will be publishing my book Reading Herodotus: A Guided Tour through the Wild Boars, Dancing Suitors, and Crazy Tyrants of The History. It should be out in the fall of 2012.

New blog widget for automatically displaying popular posts

You'll see in the sidebar that I've just added a new widget, the Blog Window Widget from AffiliateBrand.com. You can find directions for adding one to your site here. I just put it up only now, but I'm already very impressed with it. It loads quickly and it's highly configurable: you can change a number of attributes at the AffiliateBrands site, and if you want to you can configure further using your own stylesheet. It's just downright elegant, it seems to me. Works right off the bat. TypePad users without Pro accounts needn't be frightened off by it, either: you can add it to your blogs using a TypeList. Easy peasy as they apparently say in the UK.

Debra -- thank you for the kind comments about my Blog Window widget. It took quite a bit of time to develop and I'm happy with how it came out. Hope it works for you.

Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions once you've had it on your site for a while.

In the meantime, if your readers wish to go directly to the description page, here it is:

Debra -- you should see your widget on that site as well (at least until more people install and configure their own widgets).

Thanks, Gene! I corrected the link in my post.

I see that you already shortened the link to AffiliateBrand.com at the bottom of the widget, which is better for my narrower. Thanks!

3.

Thanks for the tip, especially the useful info that I can actually try this on my blog even though I don't have the pro account. I've just done it, actually, though it hasn't appeared yet. I'm also concerned that the blog will load slowly again, as it did when I had that blidget on there. I'll monitor it.

4.

It's up now! You should do two things, though, both at the configure part of the Affiliate Brands site: make the width a bit smaller and take off nine characters from the left (which will eliminate the PETRONA: ).

5.

Thanks, I was going to do this but then the blog upload went glacial, so I took it off again.

6.

I don't think it was glacial for me, either way. Has it slowed down loading here?

7.

No, but Petrona seems to be badly affected by widgets of all kinds.

8.

Actually, he's having problems over at AffiliateBrand.com. I've turned off mine until he gets it fixed, which I gather should be soon. Maybe this was part of your problem?

9.

Make love, not war!
